I was born and raised in Guanajuato, a state in Mexico. Most of my childhood was spent in Penjamo, although my last few years in Mexico were spent in La Estrella, a rurality that was part of Penjamo. I grew up facing many social issues including food and housing insecurity. The area where I lived was under-developed, there were not a lot of roads, water came twice per week and most of my neighbors grew their own food.

At the age of 13, I migrated to the U.S with my family, I arrived at East San Jose, just in time to start high school. In San Jose, we went through the same struggles of food and housing insecurity, only now it was much more difficult to access green space and nature, since San Jose is such a dense city, that lacked, and continues to lack connectivity in public transportation. By the grace of God, I was able to attend college and bring in different resources to my family. I attended UC Davis and obtained a degree in Environmental Science and Management, with a minor in Wildlife Conservation Biology. During college I gained experience as an outdoor educator working to take Latino Families on camping trips in Boulder’s region.

I obtained a Master’s degree from San Jose State University around the topic of Wildlife Value Orientations and while I completed this, I worked to defend immigrants rights through the Immigrant Justice Fellowship hosted by the UCLA Labor Center. Shortly after I became an organizer with Latinos United for a New America and in 2021, I became the executive director of the same organization. For two and a half years, I worked to develop the organization, I grew its budget by five times, and grew the staff from a two-person team to eight full-time staff, and many other contractors. Through this journey, I learned many lessons on leadership, base building and shared power.

I lead my consultancy and work through the lens of community building, collectivism and consent as it relates to decision-making. If you align with these frameworks, please reach out to chat about potential collaborations.
